Evan is 8 Weeks

8 Weeks! Already. It's gone so freaking fast it's incredible.
He's weighing in at a big 11 pounds 1 ounce. Big boy!

His interests include;

Car rides! And anything involving the car seat, like going to the grocery or Target. He falls asleep within I'd say 3 - 4 minutes of being strapped in.

Loves, loves, loves to stand up. He supports his own weight - he has some strong legs, I can tell you that cause he kicks me. Like a lot.

Loves it when Mommy takes his picture.

Loves milk. Exhibit A - milk drunk as we call it.

Well all I can say is for every one thing he loves there are about twenty things I love about him. He makes me smile about a hundred times a day and I never could have imagined loving anything as much as I do this little man. I could just gobble him up!

Family

Spent some time with Grandma and Grandpa on Sunday. It was a gorgeous day and Evan just took it all in.

Oh and can't forget Uncle Eric. And to make our lives easier we started Evan on formula. It was a very tough decision for me but in the end I realized it doesn't mean I love him any less. He's doing just fine on it and no more worries about weight gain. And I have a little bit of freedom since now Todd can feed him.
So we are doing just great. He is not sleeping through the night yet but since I'm not working I'm not too concerned. When I go back to work in a month then it might be an issue.

A Day in the Life

So I've been keeping a sort of journal to keep track of Evan's routine (feedings, naps, etc.), and since I have nothing else to really blog about I thought I'd share yesterdays events. Riveting, I know.

7:45 am - Evan woke up happy - fed him.

8:00 am - 9:00 am - Waketime (play gym, bouncy seat, tummy time).

9:05 am - Naptime, cried but fell asleep in about 6 minutes.

10:10 am - Woke up hungry - took full feeding.

10:25 am - 11:15 am - Waketime (play gym, tummy time, outside with mommy)

11:15 am - Naptime, cried 5 minutes, fell asleep, woke up and cried 5 more minutes finally dozed off about 11:35 am.

12:20 pm - Woke up hungry (gotta be a growth spurt!) - took full feeding.

12:45 pm - Waketime (yea right) outing with mommy - went to BMV, he slept the entire time.

1:35 pm - Naptime - he's not having it, tried pacifier 3 times, he would fall asleep for 5 minutes then wake right back up crying.

2:12 pm - Got him up, put in swing - he was asleep almost instantly.

3:35 pm - Woke him up (well tried, he was comatose).

3:45 pm - Fed him.

4:00 pm - 5:00 pm - Waketime (tummy time, bouncy seat, play gym).

5:00 pm - Naptime, cried off and on but fell asleep about 5:20 pm.

6:00 pm - Woke up hungry - took full feeding.

6:15 pm - 7:15 pm - Waketime (daddy time & bouncy seat).

7:20 pm - Naptime... not happening - he would NOT nap, got him up and fed him, he took a full feeding (has to be a growth spurt!).

8:15 pm - Bath, some waketime on his gym and some tummy time.

8:30 pm - Bedtime.

2:45 am - Woke up hungry (this is the longest he has EVER slept! Yay!!!!) Fed him, he went right back to sleep.

5:30 am - Woke up hungry, fed him, he went right back to sleep.

7:45 am - Woke up happy - fed him.

So that's our typical day - sometimes it's easier, sometimes much harder.

Tummy Time

The pediatrician said he would hate it but it turns out Evan loves some tummy time. And I have no way to gauge this but he's obviously super advanced at it already :-)

We've been working on getting Evan on a routine and so far it's working out great. Hopefully a full nights sleep is somewhere in our future. I won't hold my breath though.

Patience

I'm working on it. All day, everyday. It's not easy for me. But I remind myself constantly that it won't be like this forever. It will get infinitely better. And I also have to remind myself that he will never be this little and squishy again. And it's going so fast if I don't stop myself from being frustrated I will regret spending the first weeks of his life being a big ole grouch.

To answer everyone's question (and by everyone I mean everyone) NO - he is not sleeping through the night. I mean, what five week old sleeps through the night (except ones that belong to EXTREMELY lucky parents)?
He wakes up about 2 to 3 times a night to eat. I am lucky in that he goes right back to sleep. But he is much better at that than I am. I'm such a light sleeper that it's difficult for me to fall back to sleep. Especially when you have a squeaking baby, a restless dog and a snoring husband.
But now that I'm coming up to six weeks of sleep deprivation I am getting used to it. It is getting a little bit easier.

It's harder during the day. Despite what the following picture shows it is very hard to get the little guy to nap. Naptime is not only necessary for him, I need it too! We are working on it though. As with everything else.

As far as waketime goes he is getting more interested in looking at objects. He gets bored pretty easily and he likes to be moved around for new scenery.
This play gym has been awesome. He loves it, he can stare at the toys for as much as an hour sometimes. A hour is an eternity to me.
This may sound like a negative post but I really want to tell it like it is so in five years I'll look back and laugh... maybe cry a little cause I know these days are precious and as frustrated as I can get it's worth every second.

One Month Checkup

I took Evan to his one month checkup yesterday and he weighs 8 pounds 9 ounces which is the 20th percentile and he is 21-1/4 inches long which is the 50th percentile. Basically all normal and all good. The only thing the doctor was a little concerned about what a little popping noise when he rotated Evan's hips. Just something we need to get checked out in a month with a quick ultrasound. Other than that Evan is right on track.

Evan's One Month Photos by Kory Johnson Photography

My friend Kory took these photos yesterday and they turned out great. Evan just slept the whole time, imagine that.

Evan is 4 Weeks

I can't believe it's been 4 weeks. Everyone warned me it would fly by and boy were they right. It feels like we just left the hospital with him.

He has started to make eye contact more and more so hopefully smiles and laughing aren't far off. He does smile a lot but I don't guess I can count those yet.
We have his 1 month check up on Monday so I'll update everybody on how much he's grown.
