Wailua Falls

After pulling up to the waterfall lookout and realizing that a midget like me would not be able to get a decent view or picture of the falls we decided to take the rather rough hike to the bottom. Ignoring the "danger keep out" signs we climbed the fence blocking off the trail. Our guidebook said the fence was put up by the state in their paranoia about liability. The guidebook also said they were not sure if you were not allowed on the trail or simply not advised to go.
The trail was almost vertical most of the way down, there we ropes tied to trees and roots to help - I had to walk down backwards most of the way. Another couple joined us (we had the same guidebook).

You can kinda see the ropes in this picture - the mist from the waterfall made it hard for pictures.

But it was worth it when we reached the bottom. A nice hefty rain that morning made for a muddy trail but an extra nice waterfall.

The walk back up was no picnic and I'm still feeling it 3 days later. Again, so worth it.

I'm pretty sure I see a polar bear peeking out from behind a tree in that third picture.

And Kate and Sawyer swimming under that waterfall.
